This position functions as a Maintenance Worker for the Harry S. Truman Memorial Hospital, Columbia MO, within the Facilities Management Division. Performs a variety of Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic functions such as review work orders to determine the problem and scope of work required, selecting appropriate tools, supplies, and materials, interpret drawings and manuals to determine facility/system maintenance inspections to determine hazards and repair requirements.

Duties

The incumbent serves as a member of the Facilities Management team. Major duties include but are not limited to: Performs work involving a variety of general repairs, maintenance, adjustments, modifications, inspections, and preventative maintenance on industrial equipment, machinery, and systems Service various pumps, pumping systems, and motors for chilled water, cooling towers, high temperature water, and sewage ejection Repairs/installs medical/mechanical equipment as needed (wheelchairs, beds, medical air compressors, dental air compressors, medical vacuums, etc) Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work such as that which involves removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems Hook up to installed systems such as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets Install/repair pressure producing valves, hot water heaters, and/or storage tanks Install wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices Perform flat work oxygen-acetylene and electric arc welding to fabricate or repair parts needed to complete industrial equipment repairs Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 2:30pm-11:00pm (Emergency on-call may be required) Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD098500 Physical Requirements: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment 25 pounds and over with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: ElectronicsMechanicsPaintingPlumbing and Pipefitting Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
