Duties
One-year temporary appointment with possible extenstion. The Assistant Food Preparation Specialist assists the Chef/Food Preparation Supervisor and Assistant Chef in preparing for luncheons, dinners, receptions and other special functions held at the Court. Assists in the care of all dining facilities/materials including related property and materials located in the Supreme Court Building (exclusive of the public cafeteria); assists in or assumes independent responsibility for the preparation of food items and event service requirements; deals with caterers, musicians, entertainers, florists, and vendors; assists in the selection and purchase of food items as required. Provides cleaning of assigned dining areas and related property and materials; maintains records, ensures equipment is maintained in proper working condition; conducts annual and other inventories as required. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
A background in food and related accessory preparation is required. Experience as a kitchen steward, waiter, cook or bartender is required. A thorough knowledge of food preparation with appropriate accessories and related service and required equipment; a variety of table arrangements used in formal and informal dining; table waiting and bartending; food service administration, purchasing, records and inventory procedures; and food service equipment maintenance and sanitation are required. Ability to perform under extreme pressure and use good judgment; and must be able to work long hours to oversee events.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
