Installs ceiling/floor/ceramic tiles, metal studs, drywall, wall panels, toilet partitions, doors and door frames complete with hardware, carpet, countertops. Alters, repairs and modifies building structures, frames and furniture. Plans and complete projects from initial layout to final assembly. Lays brick and repairs concrete blocks. Prepares mortar and surfaces to be repaired.

Duties

The duties of the Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter) includes but is not limited to: Installs ceiling tiles, floor tiles, metal studs, drywall, ceramic tiles, wallpaper, wall panels, toilet partitions, doors and door frames complete with hardware, carpet, counter tops, kitchen cabinets, etc. Alters, repairs, and modifies items and structures such as framework, rafters, various styles of roofs, doors, drywall, finished paneling, ceilings, vinyl floor tile, windows. Interior and exterior trim, staircases, trusses, and beams. gutters, etc., where accuracy, spacing, and fit are essential and structural soundness or appearance are Important. Plans and-completes projects from Initial layout to final assembly or Installation. Repairs high-grade wooden Items such as cabinetry, shelving, furniture, and woodwork for use in homes, offices, medical applications. etc. Selects, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles, and decorates wooden materials and parts. using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques. Determines the tooling, durability, cost, strength, and appearance of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers, and wood substitutes when planning and completing projects. Lays brick and repairs joints of concrete block and similar building materials, Including the preparation of suitable mortar and the-preparation of surfaces to be repaired. Works on new and old construction, tile setting of tiles for walls and floors, repairs curbs, and installs sidewalks. Works from incomplete blueprints, sketches, oral Instructions, and work orders. Determines the roofing work to be done, locating leaks and determining their cause and extent of damage. Selects the work method to be followed for repair, and determining and using a greater variety of roofing materials and accessories such as shingles, roofing felt, and asphalt. Responsible to install new roofs, including metal flashing, gutters, and other roofing accessories. Applies a wide range of techniques to set up and tailor appropriate machines, tools, and accessories to accomplish projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm (Schedule may change based on the needs of the service). Qualifications

Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair Interpret Instructions, Specifications (includes blueprint reading) Materials Measuring Instruments Technical Practices Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Preferred Trainings: Any of the following training from: 1) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 2) Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA), or 3) National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) A current, valid state issued Driver's License is required for this position. Individuals required to operate a Government-owned or -leased motor vehicle to properly carry out their assigned duties must be properly screened during the recruitment and onboarding process. Applicants must: Possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, Have a safe driving record, and Demonstrate that they are medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Physical Requirements: Works at benches or while material is on supports. This requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Will work on ladders and scaffolds which require working overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using such tools as handsaws and planers. Work may also require physical exertion and the lifting or carrying of various weights. Concrete work requires heavier effort in handling and finishing of the project. Working Conditions: Worker is subject to cuts from hand or power tools and danger from flying splinters and chips of wood. Shop work is also unpleasant due to the presence of sawdust in the air. Frequently the incumbent works outside in all kinds of weather. There are times when protection from weather conditions is limited to unheated building shells. They are subject to danger of falling when working on roofs, scaffolds, and ladders. They are exposed to possibility of burns from hot asphalt, as well as cuts and bruises. Working with asphalt results in exposure to unusually dirty conditions that are damaging to clothing and shoes.
