There are two District Manager (DM) positions being filled from this announcement. One is located in the Alameda District Office in Albany, CA and the other is located in the Des Moines District Office located in Des Moines, IA. The DM is responsible for delivery of major aspects of the Agency's food safety and public health regulatory mission. Both are in the Office of Field Operations (OFO), Regulatory Operations division.

Duties

You will exercise complete responsibility and authority for managing a full range of public health regulatory and other consumer protection program activities in your District. You will direct and oversee the review, implementation and on-going assessment of the domestic meat, poultry and egg products inspection program in your District, personally and through subordinate managers, supervisors and staff. You will formulate operational policies, procedures and programs including long-range goals and priorities for program activities within the District. You will ensure that the activities of front-line personnel are prioritized and appropriately directed to conduct inquiries or assessments, document findings, and recommend action in response to public health problem(s) and/or food safety issues. You will exercise broad delegations of authorities and flexibilities for assuring efficient and effective management of extensive financial, human, and other resources in support of the Agency's public health regulatory mission.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time in grade: Applicants must meet one year at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-14 grade level for consideration for the GS-15 grade level.) For the GS-15 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-14 level) that demonstrates: Specialized experience for this position must have provided you with the ability to: demonstrate responsibility for performing, planning, and managing complex work involving the oversight and enforcement of a full range of the Agency's public health and other consumer protection regulatory requirements where the subordinate workforce is multi-level, multi-disciplined and geographically dispersed, OR equivalent experience.
