As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the total functions and directs the performance of the environmental program to ensure efficient and effective accomplishment of program priorities, milestones, and goals and objectives.Location of position: Public Buildings Service, Facilities Management Division, in Kansas City, MO.

Duties
Applies the newest developments in the field, ensures incorporation of efficient environmental program provisions and considerations, e.g., inclusion of environmental controls, in the planning, designing, constructing, modifying, and maintaining of facilities.
Reviews and evaluates the work of agency and consultants by reviewing preliminary reports and related design drawings and specifications on proposed major construction projects to identify obscure environmental problems.
Evaluates the problem conditions resulting from surveys/assessments. Identifies corrective action considering feasibility, cost, disruption of operations, and relative program priorities.
Provides advice and assistance on environmental management to all levels of line and staff management and applies a systematic approach to identify and solve environmental management problems by environmental monitoring and employee participation in risk reduction/loss control methods.
Promotes awareness through oral presentations at group meetings and conferences and in written presentations and reports. Attends and participates in meetings of union and management committees for the purpose of providing interface between employees and management concerning matters of environmental problems.
Provides expert advice on the interpretation and implementation of technical guides, environmental policy, and environmental control laws and regulatory requirements.
Stays abreast of the latest developments in the environmental field and monitors the new laws and regulations for application within the region.

The GS-13 salary range starts at $99,916 per year. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience in providing technical oversight, coordination, and management of environmental protection programs in areas such as: air and water quality, hazardous waste and materials management, oil and hazardous substance spills planning, environmental liabilities, fuel storage tank management, permitting and closure, identification management and mitigation of risks associated with toxic substances, and general environmental compliance. Experience must include the related technical evaluation and assessment for the following types of work projects: facility operations, new construction, renovation and demolition.
