You will serve as a Shipwright Leader (Expert) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
You will serve as an Expert Shipwright and will lead a group of shipwrights of varying levels. These positions are located in Code 900, Production Resources Department.
Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.
Duties
You will serve as an expert on installing, maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of scaffolding, shoring systems and components.
You will exercise leadership skills to mentor trade employees in a wide range of work activities such as use of blueprints, specifications, and sketches to manufacture cradles and complex systems scaffolding builds.
You will perform research to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies and procedures associated with shipwright work.
You will identify cumbersome work practices and deficiencies, improve trade processes, inspect work, and implement corrective actions.
Requirements
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- Work requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 45 pounds.
- Work requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs, walk, crawl, stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, and sit to push, pull, lift and manipulate tools, parts and equipment.
- Work is performed in shops, aboard ships and submarines which require working in uncomfortable and cramped or confined positions.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
