About the Position: The Health Insurance Technician (Office Automation) position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Director for Administration, Resource Management, Uniform Business Office.

Duties

Responsible for patient account management including billings, tracking of outstanding accounts receivable, collections, depositing of monies, and periodic reporting requirements. Efficiently and effectively assisting in the administration of account management of the Third Party Collection Program. Interview, explain and answer questions regarding TPCP to patients and their insurance companies. Determine appropriate International Classification of Disease (most recent edition), (ICD-10) and current Procedural Terminology-4 (CPT-4) codes to define diagnosis, procedures, and level of intensity of evaluation and management codes. Accountable and responsible for accuracy in coding due to civil penalties for misrepresentation of diagnosis and medical treatment contained in Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 and Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987. Review payments and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) received from the insurance companies. Receive and respond to a wide variety of correspondence (i.e., requests for additional information and denials) and telephone inquiries.

  • This is a DOD Financial Management position. The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain certification may result in adverse action.

  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes applying third party billing; reviewing insurance claims for accuracy and completion; filing and maintaining insurance records; and utilizing office automated programs to generate or retrieve insurance data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as Health Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
