Duties

You will work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, instructions, and at times, under the guidance of a higher-graded Painter. You will perform spray paint work involving high finish and close tolerance requirements, using conventional coatings and equipment. You will perform specifications, sketches, blueprints, technical directives, manuals, and shop orders, to obtain information on surfaces to be coated.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

WG-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the WG-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Prepares aircrafts for sanding, featheredging existing coatings and selecting proper grit abrasives to ensure adequate substrate smoothness. Applies paint finishes on a variety of aircraft, engines and ground support equipment. Applies coating to surfaces that are free from runs, skips and drips. WG-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the WG-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Prepares aircraft, engines, ground support equipment and components for finish using various chemicals, detergents, and solvents in conjunction with high pressure steam and water. Performs by detailed instructions strip operations such as chemical and Plastic Media Blasting, masking, apply chemical conversion to bare substrates, identify various types of corrosion and treat in accordance with technical information, prepare and apply various paints/proper finishes to process aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assembles, and/or sub-assemblies. Completes set up, skilled use, care and accountability of trade related tools and equipment such as conventional paint guns (pressure suction), pressure pots, airless equipment (pump sprayers and guns); air-assisted electrostatic paint guns, orbital sanders, component machines (pressure requirements, proportioning ratios), hoses, blast helmets, sanders, sealant guns, hand tools.
