This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

The Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) Senior License Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) is aligned under the Chief, MHRRTP under Mental Health Product Line (MHPL). The incumbent functions as part of a multidisciplinary team, diagnoses and treats mental disorders, conducts psychological and cognitive assessments, and provides consultation to other providers. The core of the incumbent's duties is service delivery for substance abuse disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in the MHRRTP setting, to include early identification of at-risk veterans, relapse prevention, and management of co-occurring disorders whose exacerbation might contribute to relapse or problematic substance use. Duties include but are not limited to: assessment, identification, facilitation, referral and linkage to appropriate medical, psychotherapeutic, and psychiatric services for Veterans in the MHRRTP. assessment and diagnosis of SUDs and co-occurring mental disorders, and continued collaboration and integration of services. provides early identification and intervention for the full spectrum of mental health problems, chronic diseases, and health interfering behaviors related to SUDs treats SUDs and co-occurring mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provides adjunctive interventions for treatment of mental disorders assist the Veteran in service stabilization by consulting and intervening when problems arise with service providers, as well as assist in priority management/pace of services/integration of Veteran in the MHRRTP by participating in related treatment team meetings. incumbent seeks to maintain relationships with staff that are conducive to a smooth functioning, multidisciplinary approach to service delivery. providing urgent and emergency care to Veterans is expected of all staff members. collaborates with the other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team in the provision of comprehensive mental health services to Veterans ensures equity of access, service, and benefits to this population and ensures the care provided is of the highest quality in conjunction with the healthcare team, identifies and assesses risk, safety, supports and implements appropriate interventions/treatment for those who are experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation or are experiencing domestic or intimate partner violence. adheres to VA and mandated reporter requirements advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center on abuse, neglect, exploitation and intimate partner violence issues. performs comprehensive suicide risk screenings and assessments and develops and integrates safety planning and safety goals into the Veteran's collaborative, individualized treatment plan complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients complies with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes) Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm w/ rotating weekend coverage Telework: Not Available Functional Statement #: 502-00458-F EDRP Authorized: Contact [email protected], the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistance. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3g. Education: Do you hold a master's degree in in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) ? Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling. CACREP defines the date when graduates are considered to have graduated from a CACREP accredited program. Additional information may be obtained from http://www.cacrep.org/directory/. Note: Traditional Rehabilitation counseling programs that are accredited by CACREP do not meet the LPMHC qualification standards as Traditional Rehabilitation counseling differs from Clinical Rehabilitation counseling. License Requirement: In addition to the basic requirements, a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and treatment. (PLEASE PROVIDE A COPY OF THE LICENSURE) Grade Determinations: GS12: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have at least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior LPMHCs must have five years of post-licensed experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skill and judgement, demonstrating progressive professional competency and expertise and be licensed to provide clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed LPMHCs. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the basic requirements and meeting the KSAs for GS-11 grade level, the candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: 1. Advanced knowledge of an mastery of theories and modalities used in the specialized treatment of complex mental illness. Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Ability to determine priority of services needed and provide specialized treatment. 2. Advanced and expert skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities for Veterans with complex needs. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling, or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial, and/or case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans. 3. Ability to coordinate the delivery of specialized psychosocial services and programs. Ability to design system changes based on data. 4. Ability to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and trainees on the psychosocial treatment of patients, rendering professional opinions based on experience, expertise and role modeling effective clinical skills. 5. Ability to teach, mentor staff and trainees, and provide supervision for licensure or for specialty certifications. 6. Ability to engage in written and oral communication with leadership/staff and community stakeholders regarding policies, procedures, practice guidelines, and issues pertaining to the practice of the profession.
