This position is located within the VA New Jersey Healthcare System in Lyons, NJ. The Training Specialist position develops and implements Housekeeping Aid training procedures, policies, and practices that meet requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Hospital Association (AHA), Joint Commission on Accreditation of hospitals Organization (JCAHO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and any other accrediting bodies that are applicable.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Develops and implements Housekeeping Aid training for cleanliness and sanitation, including frequency of cleaning; methods, procedures and safety precautions to be followed; selection, measurement and proper use of housekeeping and cleaning supplies; use and maintenance of housekeeping equipment; Evaluates course instruction and training programs; Performs work involving modification of training courses and obtains/adapts instructional materials as needed; Coordinates projects for the development and implementation of training course or course materials; Coordinates meetings and the gathering of information for specific analysis and tests; Conducts studies and analysis in functional specialty or subject matter areas; Conducts task analysis for determining Housekeeping training requirements, and special related staff studies of training and testing materials; Gathers relevant training information including student performance, analyzes pertinent data, develops findings, and makes recommendations on changes that are largely modeled on precedents; Assists in the analysis and improvement of work procedures, methods, materials, etc.; Makes continuous inspections of medical center to monitor housekeeping techniques, procedures, products, and adherence to infection control standards; Provides instruction covering a wide variety of topics in well-established areas of housekeeping and sanitation; Uses a wide range of teaching methods or tools depending on students' learning requirements; Ensures effective training procedures are implemented for minimizing patient, employee or visitor exposure to infectious disease; Provides on the job training as necessary in floor maintenance, waste removal, wall washing, furniture care, etc.; and Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm Please Note: This position alternates between the East Orange Campus and Lyons Campus. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must meet one of the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Training Specialist, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of education and administration and of the methods and techniques of instruction, includes: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc. and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. This experience must be described clear and detailed in your resume to receive credit. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B., J.D., if related, in a major study - Education or a subject area related to the Training Specialist position. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Training Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: Equivalent combination of successfully graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses in Education or a subject area related to the position and such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the Training Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: No special physical demands such as above average ability, dexterity, or strength are required to perform the work. Work is sedentary and the employee may sit comfortably. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving of an automobile, etc. Fieldwork may involve traveling to interviews, meetings, and sources of information. Work is usually performed in offices, conference rooms, or similar settings. The work areas are adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
