This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position is located at the USA Medical Department Fort Meade Kirk Army Health Clinic.

Duties

Perform crisis intervention, risk and clinical assessments, case management, command consultation and administrative tasks to prevent and treat child and spouse/intimate partner abuse. Analyze the information and use professional judgment concerning difficult decisions that may have serious consequences to the child or the family. Obtain relevant data from various agencies to compile information and present for a determination of abuse or neglect to the Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee. Provide therapeutic treatment to victims, offenders and family members of those involved in domestic violence or child abuse or neglect. Conduct comprehensive and complex risk assessments, clinical interviews, and psychosocial assessment of children and adults. Make treatment recommendations to the multi-disciplinary Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee team.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Incumbent is subject to Central Registry Check (Department of Defense Child and Domestic Abuse reporting system.)
  • A pre-employment physical exam may be required.
  • May be required to work after hours on-call at the military treatment facility emergency room.
  • This position may be required to testify before agencies and/or in court.

  • As a part of the credentialing requirements above, this position requires having actively practiced as a family advocacy provider within the past 2 years providing direct patient care services that have been peer reviewed.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Family Advocacy): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: in a family advocacy environment: assessing incidents of abuse, providing counseling to abusers or victims, and developing treatment plans to those involved in abuse. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Selective Placement Factors Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. Experience: This position requires 1 year of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse.
