The Wichita VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Medical Administrative Assistant, Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) position. This position is a part of the Healthcare Benefits department and Medical Administration Services.
Duties
The Medical Administrative Assistant is within the Medical Administrative Service, whose responsibility is to represent both the Medical Center and the Medical Administrative Director, on all administrative matters occurring when assigned to other than a normal tour of duty. This position is delegated full authority and responsibility to exercise Medical Center Director prerogative in medical admin matters occurring during the tour of duty; represents and acts on behalf of the Medical Center Director in (non-policy making) admin matters and is part of the VA management team; represents management in matters pertaining to the lawful retention of Veterans in the Medical Center; maintains continuity of operations and provides full medical admin support to professional and administrative Medical Center staff; is responsible for fulfilling management objectives and support decisions of management in performance of duties; and provides technical guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal, and admin requirements relative to the care and treatment of patients to achieve optimum use of available resources.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/06/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to:
Knowledge of various office equipment and higher-level knowledge of computers, including various programs: such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Ability to set priorities, coordinate activities and skilled in oral and written communications;
Experience scheduling appointments in a medical database.
Knowledge of medical resources within the community.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of next-of-kin procedures.
Ability to cancel and rescheduled clinics.
