This position is located in the Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic of Engineering Service, for the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) and is located within the Maintenance and Operations Section.

Duties

Major Duties: Checks guidelines available and draw upon his own skill and knowledge to determine the source of trouble, and then return equipment back to operating order. Installing, modifying, testing, repairing, maintaining, inspecting, calibrating and ensuring the operation and safety of several building systems. Installs complete electrical distribution systems, selecting and installing correct-sized transformers, distribution panels, wire size, conduit size and junction boxes to meet anticipated power demand. Work assignments involve troubleshooting the equipment and controls under actual operating conditions, isolating the problem to the particular component or assembly, and performing repairs, which are often complicated by critical tolerances. Loads tests and maintains emergency standby generators and emergency power supply systems, including automatic and manual transfer switches, switchboards, uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), and battery powered egress lighting. Repairs circuitry requiring further adjustment and alignment with other related circuits. Makes emergency cutouts and substitutions of distribution lines and equipment, sometimes working on distribution systems when they are energized. Services equipment that has a variety of sensing units, assemblies, actuating mechanisms and related control boxes that are combined and integrated into a complete unit to perform multiple functions. May program and monitor electronic control equipment, PLC, VFD and operate computerized diagnostic and digital test equipment as part of high voltage electrical system maintenance and troubleshooting duties. Works on building service equipment such as pumps and compressors, dietetic and ward equipment, laundry equipment, floor care equipment and other non-direct patient care equipment in the facility. Maintains the primary and secondary transformers, switches, capacitor equipment and cables. Services equipment that may be of unique design, prototype configurations or age and obsolescence, and of such complexity that the mechanic must apply broad experience and sound independent judgment in achieving specified accuracy, sensitivity and precise tolerances. Determines if system is unreliable or unsafe to use and arranges to have defective equipment or system removed from service until repaired. Maintains, repairs, troubleshoots a variety of medical gases alarm panels and systems. Performs the scheduled Preventative Maintenance on assigned systems and equipment and documents in AEMS/MERS reporting systems.
