This position is a Maintenance Worker, WG- 4749-8 working in Dededo, Guam for the R1-Guam National Wildlife Refuge.

Duties
As a Maintenance Worker your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Serve as station's Collateral Duty Safety Officer.
Follow safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations, maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Train and demonstrate work methods for volunteers performing maintenance tasks. Ensure work crews follow safety procedures.
Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
Perform limited diagnostic checks on electrical equipment, and basic repairs to generators and electric motors.
Prepare surfaces of buildings, structures, or equipment for painting.
Make basic repairs to buildings and structures.
Perform simple laboring tasks such as lawn mowing, trimming grass & shrubs and spreading mulch.
Operate 2- and 4-wheel drive vehicles and light trucks up to one-ton capacity.
Operate equipment such as fork lift, farm tractors, lawn mowers, UTV/ATV to move materials such as sand, gravel, earth, or refuse.
Adjust attachments on equipment to proper level, angle, or depth.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements.
The screen out element for this position is: A WG-08 is expected to: 1) operate a variety of heavy equipment (e.g., agricultural tractor with implements, excavator, wheeled loader, skid steer, backhoe, road grader, bulldozer, dump truck, etc.) in close quarters or challenging field conditions as required; 2) tune-up, adjust and repair vehicles, heavy equipment and building systems (e.g., heating, refrigeration, HVAC, etc.); 3) use electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, or other trades skills to maintain, repair or construct a variety of buildings, structures, systems or equipment; 4) performing general maintenance tasks (e.g., welding, wiring, plumbing, carpentry, flooring, painting, or other trades) to maintain the repair the operation of an organization's buildings, equipment and facilities.
Dexterity and Safety.
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
