About the Position: Serve as a Guidance Counselor assigned to the U.S Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), Battalion (BN), Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

Duties

Perform enlistment processing for Army and Army Reserve applicants. Review applicant records in order to make necessary changes and/or updates. Follow regulations, policies, and guidance to ensure proper assignment of enlistees. Provide information about enlistment procedures to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Work hours are sporadic and hours of operation are augmented by over 20 Saturday processing days and one extended hour per Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) per month.
  • This position is dependent on successful completion of the United States Army/Army Reserve Guidance Counselor Operations Course (GCOC) within 180 days of entrance on duty.

Current USAREC Employees: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes (1) utilizing an automated system to process a variety of military human resource actions (i.e., military enlistments); (2) reviewing personnel records for completeness and accuracy; (3) and utilizing an automated systems to obtain and maintain data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). All other Applicants: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes (1) processing military personnel actions in an established military human resources system (i.e., Electronic Military Personnel Office (EMILPO); (2) reviewing personnel records to determine qualifications; and (3) utilizing an automated system to prepare personnel reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources and Business Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentage Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
