This Legal Assistant position will serve as the Grand Jury Coordinator for the office.
As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.

Duties
If selected for the position, you will serve as the Grand Jury Coordinator for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota, Minneapolis office. Typical work assignments will include:
Providing substantive legal support assistance to attorneys in complex grand jury matters.
Acting as a legal assistance subject matter expert and provide training, guidance, and technical assistance to other legal support staff.
Reviewing incoming material and determine the need for correspondence and legal documents such as motions, orders, pleadings, and subpoenas.
Transcribing, preparing, and distributing complex confidential legal correspondence, reports, and other legal documents.
Editing and compiling data for grand jury reports and supervise the secure reproduction and distribution of reports.
Developing orientation materials for new grand jurors.
Drafting, sending, and monitoring compliance of summons.
Researching and responding to outside inquiries and explaining grand jury complaint procedures to the public.
Establishing and maintaining monthly calendar of grand jury activities including criminal hearings and related matters,
Scheduling court reporters, translators, and appearances of attorneys, victims, and law enforcement officers.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
To be eligible at the GS-08 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience examining, preparing, and processing a variety of complex or technical legal documents such as complaints, judgments, notices, affidavits summonses, subpoenas. Assisting attorneys in trial preparation by performing duties such as compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists; conducting research of issues using various legal and non-legal databases and websites; composing original letters that require a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology; establishing and maintaining calendars and files; producing a variety of written documents using a wide range of office software application.
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
