The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of trade support duties such as, electricity, carpentry, plumbing, painting, maintains and repairs the medical air compressor, vacuum pumps, air compressors, etc., in accordance with applicable regulations and policies. The position is assigned to the Maintenance and Operations section of the Facilities Management Service, in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Cheyenne VA Medical Center.
Duties
This position requires general knowledge in trade crafts such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, air conditioners, and electronics to perform a variety of tasks. As the Maintenance Worker for Facilities Management service, you assist various facility trades in the preventative and daily maintenance of the medical facility. These duties will include but are not limited to:
Carpentry, plumbing, electricity, heating and air, electronics and painting.
Work minor low voltage electronics as would be found in components such as a data cable, printers and copiers.
Assisting in repairs to floors, floor coverings, ceilings, walls, partitions, cabinets, shelves, and door sashes, casings, and related hardware.
Assist with constructing installing, repairing and modifying structural units that require close tolerant fit and structural soundness (i.e, but not limited to building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, built in furniture, etc.)
Perform installation of light fixtures outlets and switches and fan coils.
Work on circuits utilizing 120 volts and less & skilled in reading blueprints, specifications, operating procedures, interpretation of engineering drawings which combine electrical and electronic schematics.
Clean HVAC grills/outlets/Fan Coil air conditioner filters, air handlers and replaces filters.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 0800am to 1630 (8am -4:30pm)

Physical Requirements: Physical exertion is considerable and includes prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped and awkward positions, reaching, lifting, and bending when using hand and power tools. Weight lifted may exceed 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers and chillers. Assistance is usually available for handling heavier materials and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Must have physical capacities for working outside in excessive heat, excessive noise, confined areas, inclement weather and on slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit to and from worksites.
