About the Position: This position is located at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.
Duties
Perform duties that require proficiency in special procedures and a broad knowledge of service operations, such as food preparation, dishwashing, dry and refrigerated storage, and food and beverage serving.
Use recipes or instructions from packages, prepares nourishments/snacks and special beverages, or other foods required by regular and therapeutic/modified consistency diets.
Label and store nourishments and all other food items with required information IAW standards.
Deliver nourishments to the wards at established times and inventories ward refrigerators for expired or overstocked nourishments and reports discrepancies.
Cook or re-thermalize a variety of simple hot foods that require grilling, deep fat frying, broiling, and use of the oven or microwave cooking.
Prepare a variety of cold foods such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages.
Use established safe food handling procedures, labels and stores food properly, and complies with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires to lift up to 50 pounds.
- This position may require to work holidays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the common duties of a Food Service Worker that includes washing dishes, pots, and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical equipment, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment and plating food on a tray. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require employee to stand, stoop, and bend. Frequently moves trays of completed salads, desserts, and/or moving trays of bulk nourishment. Performs work involving light to moderate physical effort. Lifts objects up to 30 pounds. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds. Required to work on patient wards to deliver and retrieve menus and patient meal trays
Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in a noisy kitchen, and sometimes in dining area. The work involves continuous walking and standing on tile floors. The incumbent is exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds. Incumbent works on rotating day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts
