The position is assigned to the Air Conditioning (A/C) shop within the Maintenance Division of Facilities Engineering Service at the Omaha VA Medical Center and Grand Island VA Medical Center.

Duties

Duties include and are not limited to the following: Responsible to work independently to resolve electronic controls issues related to Omaha building automation system (Ecostruxture) that senses and controls temperature, pressurization and air changes in critical areas such as surgery, ICU, pharmacy, and other direct patient care areas. OR Responsible to work independently to resolve electronic controls issues related to Grand Island building automation system, Johnson Controls Metasys Energy Management System that senses and controls temperature, pressurization and air changes in critical areas such as SPS, pharmacy, and other direct patient care areas - Building air handlers ranging in size from 5,000 to 50,000 CFM and associated exhaust or return fans - Chillers ranging anywhere in size from 250 tons to 1,350 tons and associated cooling towers including absorption, centrifugal, air cooled - Hot water perimeter heating systems, networked throughout the hospital - Variable air volume boxes - Pumps and motors including condenser and chilled water pumps - Variable frequency drives - Closed loop, glycol systems - Underground fuel tanks - Fire suppression pumps and sprinkler systems - Steam monitoring equipment -Medical Gas Master Alarm Panels - Nitrous oxide, oxygen, nitrogen, medical air, vacuum and associated alarms -Boiler feedwater pumps, DA tank, low water cutoffs, blowdowns, make up water, water treatment, boiler efficiency - Back-up generators for emergency electrical power Responsible for ensuring sufficient stock supplies are located on site for high morality components. Controls mechanic will have abilities in reading fan curves, installing and verifying pressure sensors, installing VFD's to fan or pump motors for added energy efficiency as well as VAV'S that can provide sufficient airflow to critical areas while maintaining minimum ACH rates per ASHRAE most recent guidance. Troubleshooting and repair of walk-in coolers and freezers, ultralow freezers and refrigerators, chilled water distribution systems, glycol systems, direct expansion HVAC systems and associated pumps and motors, air conditioning systems, air handling units and building perimeter reheat systems. Leads repair effort for operators, headers, tracks, carrier wheels, sliding door panels, jambs, locks, activation through network adapters, rim strikes, phi rex kits, bundled access cables and door contacts. provides technical assistance for all associated maintenance operations and contracted work affecting installation and operation of PIV cards, automatic doors, ensuring all work is correctly performed with minimal impact to the Medical Center; assists contractors and leads efforts for terminations, testing/toning of data cables, and is involved in cable management and trains coworkers on lower-level electronics or controls related repair tasks. Performs major overhaul and repair of all types of cylinder locks, padlocks, mortise locks, deadbolt locks, electric locks, rim locks, key-in-knob locks, time locks, safes and vaults. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic/PD70658A Physical Requirements: The work is active, frequently requiring physical effort in lifting up to 35 pounds without assistance and over 50 pounds with assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment. Work assignments involve frequent standing, sitting, climbing of ladders, bending and working in cramped and awkward positions.
