The purpose of the position is to provide nutrition and dietetic services as a part of the total comprehensive health program at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in Belcourt, North Dakota. The work of the position entails providing professional dietary therapy activities and nutrition education in a general surgical hospital, outpatient setting and the community.

Duties

Serves as the Clinical Dietitian/Nutritionist providing professional dietary therapy activities and nutrition education. Identifies nutritional problems, establishes short and long-range objectives, sets priorities, plans methods to be used, and evaluates progress. Coordinates diet therapy and education activities. Provides nutrition education to patients and families in accordance with the health care provider's diet order. Records information in medical record regarding patient progress and follow-up. Assists in ensuring the Dietary Department meets the Joint Commission standards for accreditation and the CMS conditions of participation. Collaborates with QNBMHCF leadership to achieve and maintain certification by accrediting agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). Establishes objectives and evaluates progress of nutrition program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Dietition and Nutritionist Series 0630 (opm.gov) Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Demonstrated experience providing nutritional care to enhance the promotion of health and the control of disease; develop nutritional plans; counsel and educate patients on nutrition issues and health eating; coordinate food production and food service activities. Selective Factor: Must possess professional registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
