About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the National Ground Intelligence Center, Enterprise Operations Directorate, Security Division, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
Duties
Serves as the Security Specialist responsible for performing a variety of duties supporting special projects, physical security, and operations security for the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC).
Provides technical expertise, guidance and assistance.
Implements national policies and procedures from the National Security Agency (NSA), National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), Department of the Army (DA).
Responsible for the management of the destruction program for non-man-readable media within the NGIC.
Creates and maintains the Fixed Facility Checklist (FFC) to include coordinating all the special annexes with other staff elements within the NGIC.
Coordinates directly with the NSA for accreditation of the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) based on the Fixed Facility Checklist (FFC).
Performs investigations into violations of operations security and physical security as directed by the Special Security Officer of the NGIC.
Formalizes investigation results and initiates reporting procedures to the appropriate national organization (NSA, NGA, etc.) as required by standard operating procedures.
Utilizes initiative in accomplishing these duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- All INSCOM employees may be subject to extended TDY or worldwide deployments during crisis situations to perform mission essential functions as determined by management.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may occasionally be required.
- This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program and requires the incumbent to obtain SPeD certification within their first two years of employment and annually thereafter.
- This is a TERM appointment Not To Exceed (NTE) 5 years and cannot be made permanent.

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
