What General Information Do I Need to Know About This Position? This is a term appointment not-to-exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Salary: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. GS-9: $60,863 (Step 01) to $79,119 (Step 10)

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels. A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. **OR B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. (CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO COMBINE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE) For GS-09: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Examples of specialized experience related to the work of this position include: planning, organizing, and implementing scientific investigations of vertebrate species (reptiles and amphibians) in the field; conducting radiotelemetry on herpetofauna species; leading field crews in the implementation of scientific field studies of vertebrates; performing data analyses on data subsets from field studies of vertebrates; writing reports; and using of database software for organization of large and complex biological data. The tasks performed at this level involved following established methods and procedures, or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying basic principles and procedures; solving minor problems and making routine decisions. **OR Applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a master's degree or possession of a master's degree in the biological sciences or other field of study directly related to the work of this position for the required 1 year of specialized experience if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position. **OR Applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate level education (as described above) that is beyond the first 1 1/2 years of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
