What General Information Do I Need to Know About This Position?
This is a term appointment not-to-exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
Salary: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
GS-9: $60,863 (Step 01) to $79,119 (Step 10)

As a Biologist within the Fort Collins Science Center, some of your duties will include:
Qualifications
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels.
A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. For GS-09: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Examples of specialized experience related to the work of this position include: planning, organizing, and implementing scientific investigations of vertebrate species (reptiles and amphibians) in the field; conducting radiotelemetry on herpetofauna species; leading field crews in the implementation of scientific field studies of vertebrates; performing data analyses on data subsets from field studies of vertebrates; writing reports; and using of database software for organization of large and complex biological data. The tasks performed at this level involved following established methods and procedures, or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying basic principles and procedures; solving minor problems and making routine decisions.

Applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a master's degree or possession of a master's degree in the biological sciences or other field of study directly related to the work of this position for the required 1 year of specialized experience if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position.

Applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate level education (as described above) that is beyond the first 1 1/2 years of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.
