Duties
Position independently resolves difficult and complicated retired pay actions.
Pay actions involve the comprehensive audit of pay accounts, correction, and adjustment of several items of pay.
The incumbent resolves questions of entitlement to additional retired pay compensation.
Corrects and adjusts retired pay due to retroactive legislative adjustments which affect benefits due from other agencies.
Determines applicability of payments, and initiates collection of overpayments as necessary.

Qualifications
Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. Resumes for federal government positions need more detailed work descriptions and accomplishments than a typical private sector resume. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience is defined as experience utilizing a large body of military retired payroll rules, procedures and operations sufficient to process pay audits, corrections, and adjustments; Reviewing and processing final actions to resolve complicated payroll problems or issues; determining complex payroll entitlements; and in-depth knowledge of military payroll systems sufficient to intervene and bypass normal automated systems and procedures.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
GS-07 (1-grade interval) Substitution of Education for Experience: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is
directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
