This position is located at the A.C. Read Golf Course Maintenance Division, Recreation Department, Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. The Maintenance Division is tasked with the responsibility of grooming the grounds of the 45 holes of golf and maintaining related facilities.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES 35%
Reviews work assignments and determines work priorities through the Superintendent and oversees the work release program through the Federal Bureau of Prisoners (FBP). assure that all personnel have been instructed in the safe operation of their equipment. directs the maintenance mechanic leader to repair faulty or dangerous machinery and equipment. Supervises, plans, schedules and coordinates the activities for 20 subordinate employees to include 12 Greens Keeper, NA-05; 1 Greens Keeper Leader, NL-07; 2 Irrigation Techs, NA-07; 2 Pesticide Spray Techs, NA-09; 3 Mechanics, NA-10; and 12 FBP inmates. Trains employees in work methods and procedures. Establishes performance standards and evaluates employees.
GOLF COURSE RESPONSIBILITIES 65%
Assumes the responsibility for the security of the Maintenance Facility and all inventories. Acts as the responsible party in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent. Assists in the planning of the daily work schedule and is responsible for its execution. Inspects the golf courses daily. Initiates purchase request for supplies. Demonstrates strong leadership and decision-making skills. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Ability to exhibit basic supervisory skills, fully understand routine golf course maintenance operations and be familiar with the equipment involved.
Ability to supervise and direct the work of other employees, monitor performance and assure adequate internal control procedures are developed and operative.
Knowledge of and a basic understanding of the game of gold and its rules and how maintenance practices impact the sport.
Knowledge of turf irrigation practices and knows how to install and maintain irrigation systems.
Knowledge of the complexities and interrelationships of soils, fertilizers, irrigation, drainage, insects, insecticides, turf diseases, fungicides, weeds, herbicides, tools and equipment
Knowledge of turf grass disorders and the ability to prescribe corrective action.
Ability to apply pesticides and fertilizers, including all related calculations, calibrations and record keeping.
Skill in applying pesticides and fertilizers in accordance with the label.
Must successfully pass the FBP inmate training within the first 90 days of employment.
Must obtain a State of Florida pesticide applicator license within 90 days of employment.??????
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.

The following is PREFERRED:
A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in horticulture, park management, turf culture or related subjects and 2 years golf course maintenance experience, OR
An Associate's degree in Agronomy or Turf Science with at least 4 years of golf course maintenance experience.
2 years supervisory experience in any area is also preferred.
