This position performs electrician duties for the healthcare facilities within Veterans Administration Pacific Island Health Care System (VAPIHCS). You will be required to assist other trades persons and/or any other work as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor with the Operations & Maintenance section of Facility Management Services. This job requires knowledge and application of electrical principles, materials, and safety standards.
Duties
As an Electrician, you will:
Perform a variety of tasks that involve installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment
Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals
Conduct research and write orders for approval and assist in maintaining stock levels for timely repairs
Access work assignments from the Medical Center's computer system
Work Schedule: 6am to 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: You may complete repairs and installation from ladder, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. Duties require you to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting and carrying of tools, equipment and parts weighting up to 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds less often. Will occasionally, lift or move moderately heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed Screen-Out Element below. Those applicants who appear to possess the minimal acceptable qualification requirement will be considered; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
Do you have the ability to do the work of a Journeyman Electrician without more than normal supervision? Qualifying experience includes: working independently as an electrician; utilizing knowledge of electrical theory and National Electrical Code requirements; installing, modifying, repairing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; using instruments and tools common to the electrical trade; reading and following wiring diagrams and blueprints to install or repair electrical equipment; using a variety of hand and power tools; and utilizing testing equipment. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
