This position serves as the Chief of Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Services under the Office of the Superintendent at Prince William Forest Park (PRWI) in Triangle, VA. The selectee has program responsibility for program development and management in the areas of visitor services, interpretive and educational activities, community outreach, and the park's volunteer program. The incumbent serves as a member of the park's senior management team.

Duties

The major duties of the Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) position include, but are not limited to, the following: Manages an interpretive program, as well as operational and visitor service programs for Prince William Forest Park, including recreation fee program. Designs and implements interpretive programs integrating and focusing on cultural and natural resources and history of a park, historic site, or similar organization. Supervises the work of 5 or more visitor services staff that includes volunteers, interns, Park Guides, Park Rangers, and Recreation Fee Technicians whose duties and responsibilities may be at the trainee (GS-05) level, the advanced trainee (GS-07) level, or the full performance level (GS-09). Manages and operates a visitor center, cooperating assoication outlet, and entrance station. Directs and manages a park-wide volunteers-in-parks program.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/25/2023 - unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Experience at this level must include all of the following: (1) Providing a wide variety of Interpretative services in a supervisory capacity to enable efficient operation of an Interpretive Education program or office; (2) Analyzing work functions and processes and identifying process improvements; (3) Planning, implementing, managing, and coordinating a comprehensive interpretive, education, volunteer, visitor services, and recreation fee program; (4) Supervising the day-to-day operations of a visitor information center, education center, or similar type of facility; (5) Responsible for short- and long-range planning; (6) Writing and updating interpretive planning documents; (7) Developing and/or implementing policy related to the interpretation or management of park areas or similar operations. ***You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated.*** You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
