This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, LANTAREA, Coast Guard 5th District, Sector Virginia, Command Staff, Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
This position serves as Secretary to the Commander and Deputy Commander, Sector Hampton Roads, Portsmouth, Virginia. Performs a variety of administration, and office automation duties which are auxiliary to the work of the organization. The position may provide assistance to one individual or to several, but in either case it is the principal administrative assistant in the office, and operates independently of any other such position in the office.

- This position requires a Secret clearance.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- You will be required to undergo random drug testing.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
AT THE GRADE LEVEL GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include: preparing correspondence and other documents in proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format; receiving visitors, maintaining files, incoming correspondence, typographical errors; scheduling supervisor's activities, composing correspondence, resolving problems, locating information, organizing workflow of office.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
