Duties

Review patient insurance information along with the Insurance Claim Form (UB04 - CMS 1500). Verify the Assignment of Benefits portion is accurate, and the patient information is completed and correctly coded. Verify the eligibility status of Service Members, retirees or dependents in DEERS/RAPIS system to ensure billing is correct. Responsible for the review, analysis, verification and correction of outstanding patient accounts in order to verify bills has been coded in accordance with the medical services. Verify reconciliation documentation and checks register to ascertain accuracy of statements of accountability. Prepare month-end and year-end adjustments to the ledger balances in order to assure accuracy and to audit for discrepancy and potential monies owed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: maintaining specialized ledger(s), or accounting data as instructed; balances, reconciles, and researches discrepancies; and may assist higher graded technicians in maintaining more complex accounts; receiving and processing a limited variety of accounting documents and/or transactions; reviewing accounting documents, verifying the mathematical accuracy and completeness of data, and determining necessary processing actions; posting data verified against source documents into accounting system(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accounting OperationsFundamentals and Operations of AccountingManages and Organizes InformationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
