The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work. - Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. - Plans and lays out work from electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders. Performs system programming, installations, modifications, pretests, operational and final testing, final tuning, alignment, and/or calibration of highly complex fire alarm system components, and/or subassemblies. - Performs a full range of duties pertinent to the deployment, maintenance, modification, and expansion of the Fire Alarm, Fire Detection, Central Monitoring Control Systems and their associated electric/electronic devices and components. - Participates in the establishment and implementation of expanded or extended use of the Fire Detection and Central Monitoring and Control Systems; and new applications typically requiring custom type installations involving the coordination and services of more than one contractor.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid drivers license is required for the position.
  • Employee will attend and satisfactorily complete applicable computer-based training and in-residence training for the EST Fire Alarm System and obtain EST thumb drive to operate, trouble shoot, and repair EST Fire Alarm System.
  • May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 - Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of an Electronics Mechanic Leader without More than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data, such as schematics, diagrams instructions, specifications, etc. to include blueprint reading, and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in buildings. Whenever possible, work is done inside well-lit, heated, and ventilated areas. Work outside, in emergencies, may require working under poor weather conditions. Exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, broken bones, and serious burns caused by electrical shock, RF energy, and hot components. Occasionally may be required to climb on water towers or tanks. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
