About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Performs preventive and general maintenance on theatrical systems and associated equipment.
Responsible for providing professional quality stage operations for live stage productions and lectures.
Operate theatrical lighting, audio sound system, video, projection, rigging systems and scenic or costume shop equipment
Arranges the available equipment to implement production requirements for all events.
Interacts with celebrities, VIPs, and performers of the highest caliber and must maintain a professional decorum, work environment, and demeanor under the pressures of production and show deadlines.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- May work an irregular work schedule with long hours (such as 18-hour days on certain performance days).

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Operate theatrical lighting, audio/sound, video, projection and rigging systems, and/or scenic or costume shop equipment; (2) Aid in the installation of lighting, sound, video, projection, electrical, theater scenery, and/or stage rigging counterweight systems; (3) Maintain theatrical equipment or systems; and (4) Provide assistance in the instruction of theatrical production concepts including scenery fabrication and/or including basic stage carpentry. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: drama, theater, fine arts or any other related major.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
