You will serve as an EXPLOSIVES SAFETY SPECIALIST in the Navy Munitions Command of NAVAL STATION. A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 9.28% will be added to the stated salary.

Duties

You will confirm explosives are stored in accordance with applicable regulatory guidelines based on the item's nature, characteristics, hazards and risks to minimize potential for mishaps while in storage. You will monitor a command's explosives safety program for compliance with requirements imposed by higher echelons. You will collect and review mishap data to recommend ways for reducing or eliminating explosive mishaps. You will manage requests for explosive safety site approvals by approving or denying sites for new construction or modifications of existing structures involving explosive quantity-distance requirements.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Personal protective equipment and clothing may be required.
  • This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ensuring compliance with explosives safety policy and regulations; 2) Identifying potential explosives safety hazards/threats and recommending procedures to minimize or eliminate the hazard/threat; and 3) Performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of facilities (both explosive handling and non-explosive handling), warehouses, and equipment maintenance operation areas to ensure compliance with explosive safety standards.
