About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Director for Professional Education, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. The primary purpose of this position is to produce medical illustrations, graphics, and other visual materials for video tapes on operational medicine, hospital and dental training schools, combat contingency training, publications, slide presentations, educational media productions, poster presentations, and story boards.

Duties

Design and prepare illustrations, graphics, and typography in various media for medical/dental clients. Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous material supplies use with creation of publications. Render human anatomy and physiology illustrations including the various organs and systems, accurately and in detail for various levels of instructional use and in various formats. Independently develops plans describing the client's project proposal. Prepare graphics and illustrations in various media for general organizational and administrative needs. Keep abreast of new and changing art and graphic products, processes, techniques and equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual vaccination.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) assisting with designing graphic arts work for publication to communicate scientific and/or medical concepts, 2) utilizing computer graphics technology to generate images, icons, and/or graphs, 3) collaborating with customers to understand design needs and 4) applying graphic design principles to medical concepts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
