This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time and to perform the same duties as other journey level mechanics assigned to the section and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. Incumbent must meet all requirements of the Personal Reliability Program for controlled PRP positions. DUTY 1: : Performs small shop chief duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. DUTY 2: Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems. DUTY 3: Troubleshoots egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair, overhaul, and modification. DUTY 4: Performs operational (or simulated operational) tests of egress and canopy jettison systems to ensure proper operation of all components using canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, and push/pull spring scales. DUTY 5: Complies with safety requirements and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Ability to use special and standard test equipment, gauges, and hand tools. 2. Knowledge of a variety of technical data such as manufacturers handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto. 3. Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them. 4. Knowledge of shop mathematics. 5. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems. 6. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints. 7. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements. 8. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. 9. Ability to maintain good memory skills, good judgment, and ingenuity. 10. Skill in mental application required to plan and lay out work, to maintain alertness and concentration, or to maintain a certain degree of muscular and visual coordination. 11. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS Heavy lifting (80 lbs and over). Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted). Removes and installs personnel and drogue parachutes and survival kits. Makes necessary inspection of same to ensure proper fit and installation. Serves as team leader of employees from other organizations when these employees augment egress/jettison work. Also stores and controls explosives/incendiary materials for organization. 2. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 3. The incumbent must obtain and retain the appropriate security clearance level designated for the position. 4. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. 5. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. 6. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. 8. Incumbent must maintain PRP status as a condition of employment and must qualify for and maintain the appropriate security clearance as well as maintaining all other PRP requirements for a controlled position. 9. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
