The primary purpose of this position, EDUCATION SERVICES SPECIALIST, NH-1740-02, is to plan, implement, administer, and advise on Education and Training Flight's academic opportunities, tuition assistance program, career and force development programs, and other education and training services and activities provided to military members, retirees, DoD civilian members, and their families.

Duties

- Provide individual career, academic, and force development advisement to military personnel of all ranks, their dependents, and/or civilian personnel pursuing undergraduate/graduate, vocational, technical, licensure/certification, and professional development opportunities at various levels. - Serve as technical expert on a variety of educational programs. - Perform a variety of outreach and customer services duties. - Perform a variety of duties involving reports, testing, and special projects.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1740, Education Services Series. ONLY EXPERIENCE OBTAINED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours appropriate to the position to be filled in one or a combination of the areas described below. At least one course must have been from (1) or (2) below. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts. 1. Tests and measurement: Study of the selection, evaluation, administration, scoring, interpretation, and uses of group and individual aptitude, proficiency, interest, and other tests. 2. Adult education: Study of the adult as a learner, teaching-learning theories for adults, models and procedures for planning, designing, managing, and evaluating adult learning activities. 3. Educational program administration: Study of the foundation and methods in organizing for adult and continuing education programs. 4. Curriculum development or design: Study of the principles and techniques for development of curricula for adult or vocational education programs. 5. Teaching methods: Study of teaching strategies and learning styles of the adult learner. 6. Guidance and counseling: Study of the purposes and methods in counseling and guidance, the role of the counselor in various settings, approaches to counseling, and the uses of tests in the counseling situation. 7. Career planning: Study of career development, learning activities, systems, approaches, program coordination, use of educational and community resources, and vocational counseling systems. 8. Occupational information: Study of theories of occupational choice and vocational development and their application to the guidance process. Identification and utilization of various types of occupational information and resources. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of education theories, principles, procedures, and practices of secondary, adult, or continuing education programs and their accrediting processes. 2. Knowledge of a variety of academic, occupational, vocational, and career development resources. 3. Ability to interpret directives, instructions, and guidance and make local decisions and recommendations based on analysis. 4. Ability to gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis. 5. Skill in conducting interviews and delivery of formal and informal presentations and briefings. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily performed sitting at a desk although it may involve some walking to attend meetings at other offices or worksites. No special physical exertion is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heat and ventilation. The work involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
