About the Position: This is a developmental Secretary position to the Full Performance of GS-0810-07. This position is located in the DETROIT ENGINEERING & CONSTRUCTION DIVISION.

Duties

Performs duties requiring the practical use of electronic systems to provide general clerical office support. Handles routine administrative matters and personally responds to routine and non-technical request for information available from files. Prepares and submits office reports of staff time charges, and maintains personnel time cards. Maintains the Chief and Assistant Chiefs calendar, scheduling appointments based on knowledge of their interest and commitments. Arranges for conferences and meetings making all arrangements. Receives calls, greets visitors, and using seasoned judgment, directs requests or inquiries to Director, Deputy or other staff members only those contacts needing their attention or action. Composes routine correspondence, review all out going correspondence for appropriate format, grammar, spelling, returning those requiring editing as appropriate. Prepares in final form all types of documentation and forms incident to office management. Prepares travel/PCS requests and all associated actions and documentation. Schedules interviews and manages the logistics for holding interviews

Qualifications for GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Performing a variety of clerical duties to include drafting correspondence, receiving, and controlling mail, planning travel, and tracking labor execution. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05. OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Qualifications for GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing a wide range and variety of secretarial duties or similar and/or related work which includes maintaining calendars, receiving phone calls, receiving, and responding to correspondence, preparing time and attendance, making travel arrangements, and other daily clerical and administrative duties, including use of office software for word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Technology ManagementWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS- 05 or 06).
