Employee will be assigned to Engineering Service, Project Design and Development Section, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, Nashville, TN, serving as an Interior Designer and developing and maintaining the interior design program for the facility.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Develops a continuing interior design program, including plans to redecorate, refurbish, painting, pictures, wall coverings, draperies/ curtains, carpets, and coordination of construction projects. Maintains and updates resource libraries of furnishings, furniture, draperies, wall and floor coverings, paint, etc., on an on-going basis. Develops and maintains a close working relationship with a multitude of commercial vendors. Coordinates the ordering and selections of resources and materials for renewing stock, improving work orders, construction projects, and special projects. Participates in the design of construction projects and renovations and is responsible for obtaining, reviewing, and evaluating color boards, specifications, and drawings to ensure good color coordination, and that the needs of the medical center are duly represented and considered. Prepares drawings and designs specifications for fabrication and installation of special construction projects. Coordinates with acquisition personnel to ensure availability and rapid delivery of resources and materials for projects; and coordinates the moves of furniture within the facilities as well as the delivery and set up of new furniture. Initiates and prepares cost estimates and complete descriptions to be placed on purchase requests for resources; and formulates cost estimates of projected costs for future budgetary allocation to the interior design cost center. Prepares detailed professional plans, sketches, overlays, and models demonstrating color schemes, furniture, furnishings, and decorative embellishments. Conducts evaluations of program aspects to ensure compliance with requirements and standards of the organization, including regulations regarding handicapped persons facilities, oversight agency requirements, Privacy Act, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related with a major study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required): Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Attention to DetailCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Design IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
