The Facilities Management Branch of Goddard Space Flight Center is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as an Architect in the Facilities Engineering Branch. In this role, you will manage design and construction tasks aimed at renovating, modifying, and enhancing infrastructure supporting NASA's mission at Goddard by developing architectural drawings, specifications, and cost estimates that serve as the basis for acquiring design and construction services through federal contracts.
Duties
Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Performs multiple functions which may include: planning, design, cost analyses, program and project management, and quality management for multi-discipline projects from initial discussions to completion of the construction project.
Generates and/or applies theories, principles, practical concepts, and processes related to architecture and architectural design, standards, codes, techniques, and practices.
Serves as Project Manager for a wide array of facility design and construction projects.
Designs a wide variety of structures and complexes through computer aided design and drafting technology or rendering sketches and drawings by hand.
Monitors contracted work either externally or on-site in the facility of the contractor.
Provides extensive coordination with multi-discipline engineering teams.
Prepares outlines of services, scopes of work, construction estimates, or engineering fee estimates for work to be performed by private architectural-engineering firm personnel.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level
Supporting facilities design, planning, or construction activities;
Utilizing engineering, planning, or design methods to fulfill project objectives related to architecture;
Assisting with project management tasks to complete established objectives.

Education
You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with a major in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in the statement above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
