This position functions as Equipment, Facilities and Service Assistant for the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) section in Engineering Service, which is a multifaceted organization that includes responsibilities for maintenance and repair, utility operations, construction, and other related duties at the James J Peters VA Medical Center.
Duties
Organizes and maintains files and records, manuals, handbooks, and other related materials.
Oversees stock inventory for M&O and establishes to adjust stock levels and reorder points using various formulas and procedures. Screening visitors and telephone calls, distributing mail, and maintaining suspense files to track due dates for the M&O unit and preparing other typed correspondence as required.
Responsible for maintaining information on safety documents, certifications and inspections relating to environment of care.
Responsible for maintenance and repair schedules. Preventive maintenance is tracked and monitored. Repairs in the facility are coordinated through the incumbent, whether with internal staff or through a contractor and are assigned to the appropriate shops impacted.
Responsible for setting work schedules for recurring work and dispatching emergency response teams acquiring all the material necessary to rectify the issues.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/28/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade) 40 words per minute typing speed
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include: Providing administrative support to the M&O section in maintaining the equipment data base, ensuring old equipment is disposed of and new equipment is entered into inventory via the Automated Engineering Management System/Medical Equipment Reporting (AEMS/MERS) software package in the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA), (i.e., AHU and associated equipment replacement projects, etc.) working alongside the engineers and shops to provide required information to ensure the database is up-to date. Assist in the preparation of budget estimates based upon knowledge of labor and maintenance costs, and provide data for scheduling, controlling and forecasting manpower and workload requirements.

Physical Requirements: Requires sitting, walking, standing, bending and lifting. The work places no special physical demands of the employee.
