You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Duties
You will receive assignments and instructions orally, through work orders, or by sketches that relay specific information on the sheet metal work to be done.
You will assemble sheet metal structures using assembly joints, hems, and edges.
You will determine resource requirements for scheduled sheet metal work to plan work assignments.
You will use basic hand tools (e.g., drills, hammers, chisels) to cut, bend, shape, and form sheet metal.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Position may be considered ALPHA and be required to report for duty to provide support during and/or after special emergency situations, destructive weather (including snow removal), disasters, or periods of increased security threat.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Performing layout, fabrication, assembly, repair, and installation of a variety of sheet metal items, such as ducts, flashing, safety guards, sink tops, drain boards, and components and parts for air conditioning, heating, and ventilating systems; 2) Usingmathematics to calculate irregular angles, curves, and pitch; 3) Fabricating sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes; 4) Interpreting and complying with technical publications related to the Sheet Metal Mechanic Trade; and 5) Using a variety of hand, power, measuring andlayout tools to perform work on sheet metal. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.
