About the Position: The Kinesiotherapist position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Duties

Develop therapy plans for treatment objectives to include exercise therapy and/or lifestyle modifications. Implement therapy plans for treatment objectives to include exercise therapy and/or lifestyle modifications. Perform initial assessment of patient to include disease process, medication, orthopedic concerns, activity levels, lifestyle modification, and patients' goals. Display understanding of cardiopulmonary anatomy and/or cardiovascular disease in order to be able to apply knowledge to patient's situations. Understating on the effects of various exercise therapies with regards to multiple diseases in order to develop an appropriate plan of care. Maintain communication with referring providers to initiate referrals to multidisciplinary team members. Advise patients on proper techniques for the use of modalities to assure they are progressing on their rehabilitation program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires pre-employment drug testing and periodically thereafter.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • As needed, this position may be required to rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
  • As needed, may work 8, 10 or 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Kinesiotherapist: Degree: A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in Kinesiotherapy, physical education, physical therapy, exercise science or sports medicine. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. AND Evaluation of Clinical Practice: Clinical practice should consist of experience in a Department of Veterans Affairs clinical training program or in an equivalent training program in a clinical setting under a supervising physician. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes clinical assessment, evaluation, counseling of patients; developing and implementing therapy plans to include exercise therapy and lifestyle modifications; understanding of cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, and risk factory in order to apply to individual patient situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: kinesiotherapy, physical education, physical therapy, exercise science or sports medicine. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
