This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at the Joint System Manufacturing Center (JSMC) facility in Lima, OH. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Duties

Respond to criminal activities. Investigate accidents and prepare reports. Conduct preliminary investigations of security breaches and interview witnesses, along with compiling evidence. Subdue and disarm people committing violent acts and arrest suspects. Respond to calls for police assistance and emergency help, along with dispatching rescue squads and firefighters. Escort important persons/visitors and give directions. Drive patrol vehicle around installation and issue tickets for parking violations. Operate radar speed detection devices and alcohol breath analysis equipment. Direct traffic and if needed, direct individuals away from accidents and fires. If needed, give depositions and testify in court.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• This position is subject to Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
• Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements. Including pre-employment an annual testing.
• Position is designated as key/emergency.
• Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver?s license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Individual Reliability Program certification.
• This position requires wearing a uniform and protective clothing/devices. This position work on rotating shifts. This position requires overtime work, including holidays and weekdays.
• Must be able to pass an initial and an annual physical agility test.
• A medical examination is required.
• Must attend and graduate from the US Army Civilian Police Academy.
• The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle, sometimes in an emergency services situation. Employee must attend and pass a certified emergency vehicle operations course.
• This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
• Must obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and know first aid.
• Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position.
• Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
