You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Freight) at the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center San Diego (FLCSD). The duty station is China Lake, CA

Duties

You will manage and analyze shipment solutions effecting off-station shipping of general freight, Hazardous Material (HAZMAT), Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA and E). You will review coded military shipping documents, select necessary information and translates into freight movement actions and terminology. You will provide traffic management of outbound fright services for movement of fright via mode(s) of transportation from varying embarkation sites. You will ensure correct freight classification and shipping processes are applied due to the wide variety of destinations, modes of transportation, and commodities shipped including AA and E, hazardous, classified and fragile material shipments. You will make informed decisions based on cost analysis to determine the material dimensions and weight, the urgency of need, and customer mission requirements. You will inspect household goods shipments as needed to ensure work of TSPs and/or contractors performing the handling and movement of goods comply with relevant service tenders, solicitations, contract stipulations and other government rules. You will explain the extent benefits, options, and costs You will prepare required documents for shipment and/or storage of personal goods You will use automated systems to prepare, process, and document actions

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using knowledge of transportation management policies, regulations, methods, principles, practices, and procedures related to the movement of shipments to perform the following: 1) Assisting in managing and/or analyzing shipment solutions effecting shipping of general freight, Hazardous Material (HAZMAT), Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA&E), classified, high dollar value, fragile, aviation, ship materials, and/or personal property using all modes of transportation. 2) Using knowledge of the carrier industry, specialized shipment needs, terminal or storage capabilities to assist in identifying appropriate shipping method, carrier equipment, services, and special handling required. 3) Comprehending, and applying rules and regulations to assist in determining the most appropriate mode of transportation consistent with the requirements of movement of freight or personal household goods Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
