This position provides professional nursing services to patients in the Obstetrics (OB) Department within the Billings Area Indian Health Hospitals. Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse(Obstetrics) or designee.
Duties
Provide professional nursing care to obstetrics/neonatal patients.
Administer prescribed medication and observe patients.
Operate specialized monitoring equipment.
Provide patient and family counseling on possible reactions to medications, health maintenance, and illness prevention and coordination of care.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Basic Requirements for the GS-7 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision;
Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level);
Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience; or-
Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.-
Examples of specialized experience for GS-07: Assess and care for the nursing needs of OB patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in urgent situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients.
Basic Requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
Examples of specialized experience for GS-09: Planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; and providing technical guidance to other registered nurses.
Basic Requirements for the GS-10 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level)
Examples of specialized experience for GS-10: Independently planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care for women and newborns in an Obstetrical Unit; providing technical guidance to other registered nurses; and assigning tasks to and overseeing patient care administered by nursing personnel.
