Duties
The US Attorney is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division of the Spokane Office. The AUSA will be responsible for handling a variety of criminal cases, with an emphasis on complex white collar and economic crimes prosecuted by the USAO's Fraud and White-Collar Crime Unit.
The USAO's Fraud and White Collar Crime Unit prosecutes a wide array of financial and corporate crimes including health care fraud, government procurement fraud, public corruption, environmental offenses, consumer protection offenses, mortgage and housing fraud, drug diversion by medical providers, and other fraud involving federal programs. AUSAs frequently work on "parallel proceedings", i.e., criminal fraud matters conducted in parallel and closely coordinated with investigations and proceedings conducted by the USAO's Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit and Financial Litigation Unit.
In addition to cases prosecuted by the Fraud and White-Collar Crime Unit, the AUSA selected for the position will also prosecute additional federal criminal matters which may include firearm cases, drug crimes, immigration, violent crime, Indian Country offenses, and child exploitation cases. Though not a requirement for the position, the AUSA selected for the position may also be asked to handle occasional civil fraud matters arising under the False Claims Act or other affirmative civil enforcement statutes.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.
