Duties

The Supervisory Audiologist position is assigned to the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service (ASPS) Edward Hines, Jr. Hospital in Hines, IL, which is a Level 1a facility. Clinical Supervises and assigns work to Audiologists in the delivery and/or support of treatment and education of patients and families. Triages consult to for appropriateness and completeness prior to scheduling. Coordinates with other sections and other services in Rehabilitation treatment, treatment scheduling, and delivery of care. Serves as a consultant to Audiology staff and other personnel in evaluating and planning treatment. Resolves problems that interfere with delivery of Audiology at the main campus of Hines VA. Performs all other duties/activities of a staff Audiologist including evaluation and treatment of patients. Education Identifies continuing education needs based on performance of Audiology and Health Technician staff. Assists with education of student trainees from multiple schools. Develops and plans educational programs to include patient, family, and professional personnel. Provides orientation/training of medical staff. Assists in orientation and training of new staff. Keeps current with theory and practice through continuing education programs, journals, textbooks, and other literature, and in-service programs. Provides patient and family education including informed consent. Provides consultation to VA medical center throughout the system in rehabilitation. Administrative Performs a full range of supervisory duties that include interviewing candidates, recommending appointments, advancements, and promotions and taking disciplinary action when indicated. Contributes to the development and completion of performance evaluations for the Audiology staff at the Hines and Oak Lawn campuses. Monitors productivity standards and production and performance priorities Develops, plans, and implements and assists in the planning, development, and implementation of various treatment programs for Audiology. Collects and compiles appropriate data for statistical and narrative reports. Makes recommendations for equipment and budgetary needs based upon the needs of the Audiology sections. Assures the cleanliness, maintenance, repairs, and successful operation of all audiology equipment, treatment areas, and operational supplies. Assists in development and implementation of policies and procedures for audiology. Responsible for submitting requests for expendable and non-expendable equipment and reviewing the equipment needs and budget with the Business Manager. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Must possess a master's or doctoral degree or its equivalent in Audiology, communication disorders, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university Licensure. The incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Experience. Completion of 1 year of professional experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: GS-13: Must possess at least one (1) full year of professional Audiology experience equivalent to the GS-12 level directly related to the position being filled. In addition, I can demonstrate the following professional KSAs Ability to balance responsibilities and to work with great autonomy; Ability to set priorities and delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational problems and develop and implement effective solutions; Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the section; Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers; Knowledge of, and ability to utilize, evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines in a professional area, and to guide the section staff in applying these tools; Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation; Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution; and Skill in the application and analysis of scientific and clinical literature in a professional area. Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience within an audiology department. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/38, PART II APPENDIX G29 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
