The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic is within FMS at the James A. Haley VA Healthcare System. The incumbent performs general equipment control maintenance and repair duties associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), boilers, chillers and energy management. Work is performed at the journeymen level as a team member to perform the overhaul, installation and maintenance of various types of electronically controlled Building Automation and Control System equipment.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs the overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, programming and repair of various types of electronic equipment that is characterized by highly complex design, construction and function such as Variable Frequency Drives, Network Controllers (NC), Java Application Control Engine (JACE) and associated monitoring software (i.e., Tridium, Johnson Bacnet). Works on the aforementioned controls and systems with coordination from the supervisor of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Section. Responsible for the programming, calibration, and maintenance of the energy management computerized pneumatic/electronic control system that has been integrated into the facility to provide precise environmental and energy usage control. Works as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic engaging in maintenance and repair of all major mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, including independent electronic solid state controlled air conditioning systems. Builds and modifies all levels to include analog limit, group and point assignments, event and time programs and calculation such as flow, BTIJ efficiency, and temperature averaging for the system. Serves as Application Manager for the centralized dedicated computer EMCS for the Medical Center. Works as a journeyman Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic. Ensures that all job sites are clean of all debris, tools and equipment upon completion of work. Constructs dust barriers and/or block off areas as needed for the safety and protection of patients, staff; visitors, and equipment. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-4:00PM Position Description Title/PD#: Electrical Industrial Control Mechanic/PD04345A Physical Requirements: The employee is expected to be able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, stooping, bending and crawling. He/she will cork off ladders, in congested areas, in overhead or tight, cramped or awkward positions and under or inside of equipment. Work requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. The position requires considerable arm movement. The employee will lift at least 45 pounds and carry for distances and up or down stairs. For required lifting of weights over 45 pounds, employee will use material handling devices and/or request assistance. Working Conditions: The work is performed in patient care settings and requires the employee to be alert to the safety and wellbeing of patients, visitors and employees. Work is also performed in areas that are not adequately lighted, ventilated or headed and can be uneven, slick or oily, tight, cramped, hot, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty. The employee is expected to work in areas of loud noises and vibrations and must wear appropriate protective devices. He/she may be exposed to moving machinery, sharp objects and other hazards that can cause cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and electrical shock. The employee often works in these conditions alone.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
