Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office. This position will be full time in the in the San Jose Branch office with occasional travel to the San Francisco office and Oakland Branch office for nationwide deployments. For the first 6 months, incumbent will work in San Francisco for IT training.
Typical work assignments will include:
Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting
Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems
Implementing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability
Monitoring functionality, security, and integrity of internet services
Assist in the planning, development and coordination of litigation support and case management services
Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Each grade has 10 step rates and GS employees are usually hired at step one of the applicable GS grade level at which the applicant qualified. The salary range for a GS-07 in San Jose, California is $57,778.00 - $75,111.00 (step 1 through step 10). The salary range for a GS-09 in San Jose, California is $70,674.00 - $91,873.00 (step 1 through step 10).
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
GS:7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing IT customer support in troubleshooting, recovering and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; provides user training on routine hardware, software, and internet applications. Maintaining and controlling equipment inventories. Installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems.
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a degree program such as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
Possess a Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) - To meet this criteria, you must possess a Bachelor's Degree OR expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of curriculum that is qualifying for the position. To be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.
OR
election to membership in a national scholastic honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirement of this provision.
Combining Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.
GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing IT customer support in troubleshooting, recovering and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; assisting in the planning and delivery of customer support service at the point of computer user/specialist interface, includes installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance using knowledge of network standards and protocols. Providing a wide variety of technical support services to coordinate teleconferences/virtual meetings.
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management.
Combining Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.
