About the Position: This position is in the Directorate of Public Works, Maintenance and Operations Division performing a variety of duties concerned with the installation, troubleshooting, repair, relocation. overhaul, and modification of various special purpose refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems and electronic control systems.

Duties

Install, repair, modify, and maintain a variety of large commercial/industrial air conditioning systems and units. Install, program, service, trouble-shoot, repair, and provide technical support on a variety of electronic equipment. Use schematic diagrams, drawings, or blueprints where available to make required repairs. Responsible for the use and safekeeping of tools materials, and equipment. Ensure stock is readily available for installation and/or repairs. Diagnose system, unit or component malfunctions by troubleshooting to determine location of problem.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Must maintain a Government operator's license to drive all vehicles assigned to the unit.
  • This position requires the EPA Technician type Universal certification required within 90 days of appointment into position and must be able to maintain for the duration of appointment.
  • This position requires the R-410 Safety Certification required within 90 days of appointment into position and must be able to maintain for the duration of appointment.
  • This position requires a pre-appointment and annual physical for the duration of appointment.
  • This a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program).
  • Personnel must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis.

I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties repairing and installing industrial and domestic air conditioning units; installing, maintaining, repairing and replacing hot water circulating boilers, warm air furnaces, hot water heaters and related equipment; installing, maintaining and repairing electrical service components; maintaining and repairing supply and drain piping; conducting preventive maintenance inspections on heating and air conditioning systems; I have the ability to perform the full range of duties repairing and installing industrial and domestic air conditioning units; maintaining and replacing hot water circulating boilers, warm air furnaces, hot water heaters and related equipment; installing, maintaining and repairing electrical service components; maintaining and repairing supply and drain piping; I have the ability to perform common duties repairing industrial and domestic air conditioning units; repairing electrical service components; maintaining and repairing supply and drain piping; I have the ability to perform simple duties I have the ability to perform simple duties repairing industrial and domestic air conditioning units; repairing electrical service components. Work involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. Mechanic carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and lifting devices such as hoists, pulleys or cranes. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed inside and outside subjected to conditions affected by heat, rain, snow,humidity, dust and grease, extreme cold, indoors and outdoors, roof tops. ; shop area is heated and adequately ventilated; floors are concrete and grease, dirt and dampness is frequently encountered; area is noisy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold storage areas.Subject to possible injuries such as strains, sprains, cuts, bruises and electrical shock from hand and machine tools and dropped units and equipment. Frequent exposure to refrigerant gases and exhaust fumes. Follows numerous safety procedures and is required to wear protective gloves,goggles, mask, ear plugs, shoes or other safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the position.
