This position is located in the Electric Shop, Maintenance and Repair Section, Facilities Management Service. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Maintenance and Repair Foreman. The Shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electrical distribution, emergency power, fire alarm, security, and public address systems, dietetic equipment, automatic doors, various motors throughout the Facility, etc.

Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities include; but are not limited to the following: The incumbent is assigned a wide variety of duties of a journeyman electrician involving installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures and fire alarm systems. Pulls conductors through raceway systems, phase out and make connections. Under emergency conditions, may be required to splice high voltage (5KV) cables. Selects proper wire gauges, insulation, protective devices and switching for a variety of equipment, lighting and miscellaneous electrical loads. They also must be able to balance service loads over three phases. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering, drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls that support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads. Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices including electrical service entrances. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD02461A Physical Requirements: The incumbent must make installations and repairs from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and where the parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, reach, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the incumbent will lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Incumbent must possess valid state driver's license. Working Conditions: The incumbent's work is performed mostly inside, occasionally outside and is usually dusty and di1ty. The incumbent is sometimes required to make installations and repairs in hard-to-reach areas. The incumbent is frequently exposed to possible cuts and bruises and occasionally is exposed to electrical shock and bums. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided for use by staff to minimize any potential injury in accordance with industry standards. Work may be assigned at other locations under the jurisdiction of the Wilkes-Barre Medical Center which requires the incumbent to travel to and from the site in a Government Owned Vehicle (GOV); i.e., the Community Based Outpatient Clinics and Scranton Vet Center.
