This position functions as a supervisor for a BHIP team consisting of two multi-disciplinary teams. The incumbent will lead the collaboration of mental health services to ensure that the BHIP teams are meeting to provide comprehensive mental health care for outpatient Veterans.

The incumbent has the responsibility to provide leadership, guidance and supervision to the mental health clinic staff of his/her BHIP Team including social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, trainees of respective disciplines, and support staff members in the Mental Health Clinic.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Supervisory Duties
Reports to the Primary Mental Health Section Chief in the operation of Mental Health programs, with specific focus on one BHIP Team.- Maintains supervisory responsibility of the following program: One Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Team.
Develops and maintains high-quality Mental Health teams while meeting all Environment of Care and programmatic requirements.
Works cooperatively with the Section Chief, other Mental Health leadership, and other services across ECHCS.
Fosters a cohesive interdisciplinary team environment.
Oversees quality control issues and performance measures with the Section Chief.
Oversees compliance with and successful execution of Mental Health Performance Measures, SAIL, workload, VERA capture, Veteran satisfaction, and quality assurance.
Utilizes the service recovery model with veterans who express dissatisfaction or concerns regarding their mental health care.
As requested, provides consultation for all mental health clinicians in regard to the clinical care or complex cases.
Performs the administrative and personnel management function or staff supervised.
Will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.
Develops functional statements and performance standards.
Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques.- Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance.
Identifies training needs of employee and arranges training as appropriate.
Works to resolve informal complaints and grievances; develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary.
Provides advice and counsel to staff regarding work and administrative matters.
Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area.
Clinical Responsibilities
Independently provides biopsychosocial assessment, evaluation and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range or psychopathology receiving care within the clinic setting.
Demonstrates expertise in using and teaching others about contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for these disorders.
Provides education to both patients and family members regarding relevant mental health concerns.
Provides comprehensive, evidence-based, psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation.
Provides consultation to health care provider s about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure health care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the healthcare system.
Develops implements and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.
Complies with all ECHCS and Mental Health documentation requirements, including timely completion of prescribed templates for documenting results of assessment, treatment and risk evaluation contacts.
Adheres to all ECHCS and Mental Health policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including but not limited to suicide risk reduction practices, timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and CPRS documentation conventions.
Achieves clinical workload expectations as established by the Mental Health Service.
At the GS-13 level and above, Social Workers are fully licensed and function independently as a member of the VAECHCS Medical Staff with full clinical privileges. Social Workers at this grade additionally assume complete professional responsibility for their clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
GS-13 Grade Determinations:
Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure: Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
(b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
(c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.
(d) Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
(e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service.
(f) Ability to provide staff training and development.

Physical Requirements: Normal work of the position requires visual acuity (with the ability to read typewritten characters without strain, corrective lenses permitted), keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially moderate levels of lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
